Mary's Essay on Legendaries

Mary Usine
Legendaries
“The sky flashed with lightning as the ocean ragged below me. I looked up at the sky as I saw a sparkling mass of yellow flying towards the moon. The things cry echoed down to me. I grabbed my fishing rod tightly I couldn’t belive what I saw. I had seen Zapdos” This quote is from one of the famous Leon Kipling novels known as Zapdos rise of the thunder. Many young kids grow up reading books on pokemon like Zapdos, Mew, Entei and Dialga. These pokemon are loved by little kids who dream of one day batteling with them. However the truth is most of these Legendaries simply don’t exist.
Pokemon like Entei, Suicunne and Raikou are pokemon that where made up to explain nature before civilization. They never existed and if they did they most likely left this world long ago. Very few people belive in the existence of these pokemon. They only exist in legend and folk lore. However there rise in popularity may be attributed to the tv show Ash’s Journey. A kids tv show that popularized these legendaries and even made a new one in mew two. Some pokemon trainers however spend there lives searching for these rare pokemon just wanting to have one look. Sadly there has never been as much as a single report of seeing the 3 great dogs, the 5 great birds or the 3 pokemon of dimensions.
Pokemon like Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy and Victini have had reported sightings. This reports are rare but most are of a young child being lost in a dangerous situation and the pokemon helping them make it out alive. There are ruins that show that ancient tribes men used to worship these pokemon. Whether this worship was like that of the 5 great birds is unknown. It should be noted that whenever and underdog in a tournament wins people will say that they won “with Victini’s guidance”. Another term is when a machine is not working properly that “there must be a Rotom in it”, this phrase comes from the gremlin called Rotom that is said to hijack machines.
Certain pokemon that where once thought to be legendaries have now been found out to be normal pokemon albeit rare ones. Shaymin which was once a rare sight has since been found to have a flock that flies from region to region. Lucario is a much older example of this with the first knights thinking it was the spirit of fallen knights come to protect them. However it was later discovered lucario’s are just normal pokemon. The Regi pokemon are also a famous example with scientist surprised to find all 3 of them in an ancient ruin, after further excavation they found several more. Scientist are now working to find out more about these pokemon.
There always need to be a bit of mystery in the world and legendaries provide that. Constantly pushing the what if barrier, tempting adventures and explorers to dig a little deeper to turn over every stone. That just behind that tree there might be Celebi. Or in the darkest caves one might find Reshiram waiting for them. Maybe that is why we invented legendaries to make us investigate, to always keep our eye’s open. To be alert to the beauty in every day.

Something diffrent

So I moved the comic to this new snazzy site. However instead of posting comics I'll instead either post A. Notes on the comics
B. Rants, Essays and stories about the world the comic is set in.
So this site will be a place for bonus material on the comic.
Sound fun? Great!
